I got mine 2 years ago.

2 days in, I was going up the stairs at work and misjudged, hit shank of my leg against the steps and I was in pure agony for the rest of the day. I got used to in after a week.

I got mine from costco and was a fraction of what specsavers wanted.

The lenses used also make a difference. I think mine is varilux

I got my first pair from specsavers. after a few days I went back, couldn't get used to them. they said give it a week or so. I did. I went back. they weren't right.

Then I went to a local optician who re-tested my eyes, gave me another pair, which I didn't need to adjust to. They were just "right" immediately.

So if you're struggling to adjust, go back to the budget salon of the untrained eye doctor who prescribed them and raise hell.

Another vote for about two weeks before the seasickness wears off.
Thereafter I wouldn't be without them.
Things to watch - going down staircases.
Shortly after my first pair I had a contract which involved walkng down a steep
concrete set of steps to a train station. Scarey....

    Going up- no problem.

I can switch from the real world to the PC screen without taking my glasses off now.

Only time they annoy me is when reclining on the sofa and watching TV - I need to move my head to get the screen in focus and get a stiff neck as a result.
Keeping a normal pair of glasses by the sofa fixes this.
    I solved this problem.

I've just got my 2nd pair (2 years after first pair). They took a few days to adjust, but are not as good as previous pair despite costing a fair bit more. The field of vision does seem narrower, resulting in more head movement, especially on a large screen close up. They are small lenses though.

I'd suggest giving it at least a week, that's how long my first pair took me. I'd not go back to single vision lenses now.

Been wearing them for years and love them. Was warned that some people can't hack them but never understood that as I took to them pretty much straight away.

I've used Asda for the 1st time. 2 pairs of varifocals for £157 sounded like a damn good deal to me (my last single pair cost me>£300).

I wondered aloud if my prescription was too complex for them but the optician said that Asda were great for people with my prescription and that they'd be swamped if people were less suspicious.

I'll let you know how it goes but Mr C got his 1st pair of varifocals from them and is very pleased.

Interesting, Boots were the opticians that I had problems with. I took the specs to another optician and they found the prescription did not match the lenses put in by Boots.

As Brillo said, a couple of weeks.

I really struggled for the first week with the fishbowl, just stepped off the waltzers type effect if you look up and down quickly but it subsided quite quickly as your eyes get used to it.

It's worse with small lenses. I got two pairs, one small lenses, one a bit bigger and the bigger ones were easier to get used to. Fine with both now. Stick with it.

If you're struggling, go back to the opticians and see what they suggest. My dad had to get a pair remade because he had that with one pair - same prescription, remade and it was fine.

Nope, went for the best quality lenses they had - Boots Opticians - Platinum Varifocal Lenses.
