Some of them you can press a key to speak to someone, and shout at them. I've no idea if it helps.

Probably wrong number, I get a lot of them. People getting irate that their delivery hasn't arrived or strange messages about Doris.
People these days with digital phones are just flat fingered. The most annoying wrong numbers are the fax machine calls. Though there are less of them these days. The worst one was a fax machine that rang me up regularly once a week at 4 am.Last edited by BlasterBates; 18 July 2014, 14:33.

Suity gets a lot of cold calls at home asking for milk, bread and coal deliveries. Very odd.Originally posted by d000hg View PostAs well as those annoying "free boiler" recorded calls, we get about once a week a call from a random number - you answer and after a pause someone comes on and asks for someone you've never heard of, who never lived at this address. And it's never the same name they ask for, which suggests it's not people who used to be on this number.
Rarely they try to sell something after I tell them the person doesn't live here, normally they just sound confused and hang up.
What are they after?

That is one solution.Originally posted by Zippy View PostUnplug your phone and plug it back in when you want to call someone.. Most people we like have our mobile numbers and it's a hell of a lot easier to block numbers on them, should we get spam calls. Or buy a Truecall unit.
I hardly use my land-line. As you say, my wife, 3 eldest kids and myself have mobiles. Only the youngest doesn't ( but she's only 7 ).
I can't see any of the kids ever having a landline number.

These calls are probably the refining process.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostWe get the same in our offices. I can only assume that they have lists and lists of numbers that they call randomly to try and sell PPI recovery, Accident claims, Viagra or whatever and that the lists are not terribly well refined.

I don't really want a system in my house that allows absolutely anyone to call me, any time, anonymously from anywhere.
It should be "opt-in" only. Only people and organisations who I have previously vetted should be able to call.
If it worked like that I might start answering the phone again.

That damn boiler thing is driving me nuts. Loads of different, apparently UK, numbers so can't block them. Don't answer and they just leave a message. Also get fake numbers like 123 to get round got no info calls blocking.

I phone you now and then for a laugh. You should hide your online identity better if it bothers you.
