The Barclays shuttle from Radbroke, runs to and from both Crewe and Knutsford Stations. The Crewe shuttle (takes about 40 mins) stops at Holmes Chapel (about 6 miles from Radbroke Hall) on the way. Hotels and B&B's in Knutsford and Holmes Chapel are expensive (£60+ per night minimum). Much cheaper nearer Manchester, or in Macclesfield/Congleton but as people have already pointed out, Manchester to Knutsford by train takes ages. Car sharing is an option from Manchester I suppose. I know a few people that do it. If you don't have your own transport then it can be a logistical nightmare if you want somewhere affordable. Shared houses are around but again, the further away from Manchester you are (ie nearer Knutsford) the availability is limited and the price rises accordingly plus they get snapped up quickly.

Currently at Radbroke, due to finish in 6 weeks.
There is a bus which brings a lot of people in and takes them away - either from crewe or knutsford (not quite sure)

I've had fellow contractors not believe me when I tell them knutsford station isn't on the WCML and they'll have to change at Manchester or Crewe, it's on the snail rail CLC line (Chester to Manchester in about a day and a half) using the awful Northern Rail.
However don't Barclays have a shuttle bus from Crewe? Might be cheaper accom around that area.

WBBS
I too was in Newc on a three monther and never even found a room, they went almost immediately. Stayed in hotel the entire gig.
Newc will be a hell of lot cheaper then Cheshire, plus I don't see affluent stockbrokers renting out rooms, realistically.
I don't think this ones doable...

Sorry to piss on anyone's chips but barcrap \ knutsford isnt a place to take your first \ early contract if the rate is just above subsistence or so low as to make life extremely difficult as in this case.
They'll be lucky to get a room cheap in or around knutsford. I looked recently in Newcastle Upon Tyne and was looking at over 250 a month minimum. Knutsford and surounding areas will be more expensive and, whoever is doing the houseshare is very unlikely to let two people share costs on one room.
As has been said, they've got no car so travel to \ from Rabroke is gonna be by taxi twice a day which will add up.
In all seriousness, have they looked at camp sites!?

+1 for Spareroom
I have a lovely place, sharing with a teacher, about 2 mins walk to my office - very reasonable rent and much nicer/cheaper than hotel/b&b
