You got a good point, a lot of their employees have been complaining too, I guess its not only me plainly.

But like many have been saying take this as a lesson, I sure will

    Other avenues:
    - ask your Student Union to put you in touch with their legal advice team.
    - ask at Uni to speak to the Welfare Team and ask them for advice.
Both of those are accustomed to dealing with the sort of employment issues students have.
I will have a speak with the student union..thank you

The contract is worthless seems you were not 18. I can't see how you are going to get a penny back based on this. By the same token I would have thought they can't hold you liable for anything either but it seems that isn't the problem here.

You signed up for something knowing there was a penalty, the something you signed up for is a rip off. You had a really bad experience midway through which you would have though they would have considered but are not legally obliged to do so and you have cost them money/revenue so they are keeping yours.

Put it down to a very good lesson in life, catch up with Uni, make sure you and your family are ok and forget it. Sounds like the last thing you need right now is the stress...

Oh and P.S. I would also keep this one to yourself for now on. Not making you look good at all if you keep telling everyone this story I am afraid.

and P.P.S not sure if you noticed but this is an IT contractor board. Apart from a few members in General we are not very experience with contract dancing for hen parties.
P.s, I don't mind sharing a story like this, I need to explain myself fully I guess, But I do see your point.

I do have to concentrate on uni, and my fathers well being.

    Once again thank you

I'll admit he has let himself go a little since retirement, but surely he'd still scare any agency into paying up?

Thank you, I guess I am not really worried about the payment, just wanted to know what was happening really.

It is a life lesson considering I signed up for a pathetic rip off of an agency.

But again I am new to this so sorry but no, I didn't see that this was an "IT board", even though it is not, I got a lot of help.

I will try and get myself out though, it needs to be done.

    Thank you

In this case, I'd go legal on them. Chances are they'll settle out of court. Consider talking to a journalist who has a particular interest in your trade.

  • I need help with an agency who has not paid me..

Hello guys,. I'm new here and got a problem I could do with some help.

A lot of this could be partially my mistakes, but you decide..here it is...

About 3 months ago, I signed a contract to a dance agency here in London, the requirements are that I am to complete at least 26 Saturdays in 1 year, and that I get good feedback.
( I go out and instruct hen parties)

The parties take place either in London or really far out places like Manchester, and Birmingham ( I live in East London which is really far) but they do pay back your expenses.

Here's the catch, we are given training before starting work, and we are to commit to the training, if we decide we don't want to work for them after even 1 day of the training, or after the training, we are required to pay £975 fine and if not they take you to court and try take your belongings to add up to the money....

Apparently I am meant to be 18 by the time I started to work, however one of the organizers said just sign it you'll be fine, so now i signed a contract and worked my first day under the wrong age, 17. (I am now 18)

I didn't know what to do, the money was little, all I was doing was working to pay my travel expenses to work.

A month ago my father was in a car accident in South Africa so I went to see him, however on the night (Friday night) I found out I was devastated and couldn't work in the morning..BUT no one in the agency answered their phone and didn't show any consideration and I went to work that morning under so much stress!

I left the following week, however on the day I was meant to fly out I emailed saying that I will be going and when I come back I wont be able to work because I will have so much to catch up at Uni including studying and rehearsing on Saturdays ( considering I study dance). I got no reply to that and just a demand that I send all the equipment the company has sent to be asap, what? on the day I have to leave???!!

I Phoned saying that's impossible and my mom would drop off the equipment the following Saturday. ( Just so you know from my first paycheck they kept £100 which is to be reimbursed after the equipment has been returned) ans it still has not been payed back.

Before I left I made sure my last invoices were posted before payroll and they were, I have been checking my account and nothing has been paid, I have emailed the finance office, no reply.

My mom has called and all they said is that they will email asap, it has now been a month and NOTHING.

I don't care about the money, its the inconsiderate people who don't even bother to rely to me, care about whats happened, but yet still email me conserving classes to teach next year??!!

I am young, I know, and normally wise enough to know what signing contracts are like. But I made a huge mistake, please could some just help me with a little adviser??

    Thank you

Working...
