Not for tax releif on mileage AFAIK but never hurts to keep any extra proofs. Not actually done it myself as always ran a company van but I think you can claim VAT on mileage for your own car and you do need to keep receipts for that.

I keep fuel receipts just in case to show that I've purchased the fuel to drive the miles claimed.

Yes the £95 figure was my umbrella comapny - of course I won't be spending anything like that amount per night! More like £95 per week

I don't believe there's any problem with claiming tax relief on a 6 month + contract, as one of the guys I was working there with before had been doing so with no repercussions.

Are you sure it's a contract with a previous 'employer'?

Quick question: I can claim up to £95 per night for accommodation (hotels, etc.) but is this still the case if I were to rent a flat?
My choice is basically a room in a shared house, or renting a house/flat for 6 months, but am I entitled to claim equally with either of these options?
I thought you could only do this for contracts < 6 months, but check with your accountant.

Yes you can still claim UP TO 95 pounds per night subject to the proviso that you can ONLY claim the amount actually spent.
