I did my SAP Technical certification in 2000 at a cost of £12k plus 7 weeks downtime.

In my opinion it didn't get me any work. You cannot beat experience.

However my current client did request a SAP certified contractor. So in the end it got me a nice gig. But to be honest there are plenty of gigs out there for SAP anyway.

My contract is 50/50 (onsite in London/work from home).
You're both getting ripped off. 25% agency fee!?!?

    Obscene.

They should be paying 12-13% (and after a few renewals frankly this should be more like 5% IMO)

Demand they reduce it and give you the money.

I do, and then I stupidly don't use them.

Rates are pretty good in the .net arena for functional guys at the mo. £700 is not uncommon for senior consultants with a decent CV.

Seems to be a couple of long running projects going on as well.

If there are any other APO types out there PM me.

The future's bright, the future's .net.

There are lots of 'sexy' new technologies but if you can still write an ABAP and do a layout (not going to use the proper word here) you can get work. Price it cheap, get on a gig, pick up new stuff. Lots of upgrades around now.

EDIT: WindyAnna - need any techies?

Go back through your CV, chop out some of the non ABAP post 2000 stuff and insert some ABAP stuff in its place, quite easy really. I also jumped ship circa 2000 but came to my senses when I got back into low level coding and my brain started to hurt.

BUT remember .Net is the future !

The rates do seem to rise and fall very quickly these days and at the moment the market does seem to be pretty buoyant and anybody who wants to be is working already. Hence big rates ! I would go to a couple of the well known '.Net' agencies and see what they can turn up. Have you tried the one named after a shape and a number ? They'll have the CV of a high percentage of experienced contract PM's and would know what rate is required.

Developers should be able to get £450-600 a day in SAP. Functional £500-£800 or more. If I was to take a PM role I'd be looking certainly at £750+. Well, actually, given the fact I hate doing PM, I wouldn't do it for less than £3000 a day.

There's loads of work around. Rates are good. (But not silly like 97-99 ).

You can still get cheap developers. But they'll cost you more.

Would be surprised to pay less than £600/day for a PM worth having. Also, the Accountant turned data monkey is probably trying it on - if you had a 'proper' FICO person you could safely add another £150 to that for starters. Yes, there are still people putting £1K away for this.

Even code monkeys are over the £500 mark now - getting expensive to run a project unfortunately.

Allegedly of course - I do .net not that German ERP stuff.
