Could be worse, could be staying at the vomit-covered Newquay Travelodge.

Hmm, must be awkward for a voyeur to be the touchy feely type.

Well that's what I thought but had to ask.

You might find a two hour commute isn't all that bad. If you can do it by train, it's extra snooze time on the way out (set an alarm if your destination isn't a terminus) and winding down/relaxing time on the way back. Time your arrival/departure to avoid the worst of the great unwashed and it borders on pleasant.

As others have pointed out in the many commuting discussions had here, you may find that sitting in a hotel room is no fun at all when you realise you could be at home for the sake of a couple of hours travel. It rarely works out cheaper than the travel cost either (something you should have checked out before signing on the dotted line). Whilst you can get deals with hotels for your regular patronage, you may then find that you wind up stuck with the same hotel food over and over again.

im just after some suggestion on the best way to make this as cost effective as possible.

    Thanks everyone!
Depends on where you're staying and what your appetite for cheap living is.

Two no-cost options spring to mind:
See if you can work four long days instead of five normal ones and still invoice for the five
Look into the possibility of WFH on, say, a Wednesday. This means that you can have an overnight on Tuesday, one on Thursday and still get the miles in (if you're happy to do that).

    Other options include:
    Megabus for travel
Student accommodation for digs (especially during summer months).
Buying a campervan and staying in that near client; there was one parked up outside Sky when I worked there a few years ago.

Your actual location and gig location would be helpful.
