Set up a search on Jobserve. Create an RSS feed for it and use Feedly to push the results to you in real time.

Other job boards are available. If you put your CV on them and update them regularly then agents/clients will call or email you.

For mainstream (AKA easily filled) contracts the general process is that the agent simply sources candidates from his database (whether directly or via referrals). No Jobserve ads necessary.

Though, reading this thread, it's clear there are agents out there who lack this level of sophistication.
There are also roles advertised for places where I would need to leave home on Sunday morning to get to the site and arrive back home 3am Sat morning.

Most of the agents advertising on Jobserve are advertising other agents roles, or non-existent ones - i.e. trying to make themselves look busy or trying to get business that they aren't already talking to the client about.

In 17 years I've got just the one (in 2003) and it was rubbish. It doesn't stop me wasting hundreds of hours searching the jobsites, though deep down I think it should.

Agents and personal referrals are the way to go in my experience.
Every single contract or perm role I got through jobserve since about 1996!

Jobserve is so goddamn slow these days...not the email alerts...the site...at peak times the enhanced view doesn't retrieve the job description making it unusable, so yes I might switch to the email alerts as opposed to browsing.

I've been contracting 12 years and have secured almost all my roles via Jobserve (the remaining ones came via linked-in or agency contacts). I specialise in PM / Programme Mgt in Retail and Insurance

I tend to work v.hard at getting the the next contract when ones comes to an end and does involve a lot of time on jobserve and on phone to pimps but have only had a short few weeks break in 12 years although I take 4/5 weeks holiday a year when in a contract

Jobserve is still the best despite it being hugely frustrating that pimps are still the most viable route to getting another contract.

I've secured roles from all the jobsites.

Some of it is down to answering ads years ago and getting relevant emails from agencies at the right time.

I have to admit every Permie job I have got since circa 1997 had been via Jobserve.
In fact up until when I took VR from HP last July I had never bothered to look anywhere else previously.

    I had 4 months 'rest'

Then hit Jobserve in November and as a banker site Jobsite as well, I found loads of interesting vacancies and yes loads of what seemed like regularly repeated (fake?) 'interviewing this week' type roles.

At 55 years old going permie does not appeal I want some flexibility and to put my years of experience to better use so I decided to give contracting a go and I secured the 2nd gig I was interviewed for.

Right money, short commute, 35 hour week, really nice place to work, option to WFH, so quite chuffed

So for me the site has over the last few years made a significant contribution to my financial health.

Maybe it's different sectors but I've found pretty much all of my contracts via roles advertised through Jobserve. I tend to go for roles that are Microsoft technologies in a consultant/ technical architect role.

I can't say I ever got a job via Jobserv, however agencies do seem to get CVs via Jobserv. Every time I load a new CV and make it available for searching I'm guaranteed to get calls from agencies saying they "found my details online." I get calls anyway, but there's a sharp increase after putting it out on Jobserv and Jobsite.
