    Jobserver 'Instant' email alerts

Is it just me or have they got slower? I'm back to looking for new contracts again and noticed that I'm getting these so called 'instant' email alerts about contracts matching my search criteria around 3-4 hours after they have gone live on there.

This puts me at a disadvantage almost straight away as if its a popular role my CV might not even get noticed. My search criteria only generates about 3-4 hits on a good day so I don't want to spend all day keep checking Jobserve for new roles but it seems like that's what I'm doing recently because of this delay.

Has anyone else noticed this recently? and if so what are you doing to work around it

    Cheers

They were never that good to begin with I just surf the site every 30 min's or so only way to be sure of not missing something when competition is so intense!

Yeah I know they weren't great but an hour or so I can live with but 4 hours after a role goes live is a bit of a joke to call an 'instant' email alert.

I am having to refresh the site every 30 minutes or so but it means if spending time doing that all day when I could be doing something more productive.

If you're a day, or even 2 days, late applying for a job on Jobserve it makes absolutely no difference at all.

Most of the adverts are for fake jobs anyway, so nothing lost really!

Also, most of the bank contract roles, even in the extreme rare chance that they may not be fake, are useless to apply anyway, since

            - It will almost always be filled up through internal references and known banking circle (no outsiders please!)
            - 99% of the time, these banks don't have any budget approvals at all, and they will simply be doing interviews, only to say, after several weeks, the project was canned because budget was not made available!

I am yet to remove my notification thing from jobserve that I set up a long time back, with search criteria with London and high rates, and I get a load of auto-emails
everyday (going directly to junk) with almost identical Bank / IB job titles, content, etc.
I have not yet removed it, since it gives me a giggle whenever I look through them (since I know these are unattainable / unreachable roles, as these advertised thinking that they can fool the applicants!) - so I leave them as is.

So, what's the point of this? Wasting time doing interviews, so they don't actually have to do real work?

Jobserve is still the best despite being slow these days.

Over matching can be a problem with Indeed. Eg if "lamp" is one of your search terms, (the Linux stack), they will show you industrial painters jobs, where heat *lamps* are used to cure paint. Indeed doesn't seem to offer industry options to filter these out. Look for "Sun" (microsystems), and it will bring to your attention a chef's job in the local pub called "The Sun".

Also Indeed results are becoming more and more polluted by "sposored" listings. You don't want to work in London ? You WILL receive London jobs anyway, at the head of your results, if they are sponsored. Even a "-london" search clause won't you.

Does anyone use Jobserve et al nowadays? When benched I normally just wait for a call, only click stuff when that plan goes tits-up, which happens less and less as I get older/more respected/more skilled/less fussy....

I'm only a few years into running my own contractor business so Jobserve is crucial to me finding new work, it seems to be only job board that reliably has 95% of new contract roles that are advertised. Before I realised that I was searching 4 or 5 different job boards in the hope of not missing any advertised roles but now I'm happy to just check Jobserve
