Online credit card scam

At this point I would have cancelled my card.

Yes I did that. Still slightly concerned that the scammers have my name/address/mobile, although hopefully they can no longer do anything with the card data.

Anyway, entered name, address and credit card details. Transaction failed.... Since I'd already smelled a rat, I googled the numbers, and they are linked with fraud.

Had a scammer calling me last week saying they were from my mobile provider Three and they needed to deliver me a new SIM card to upgrade me to 5G. Thought it was genuine at first until they started asking for details that Three would already have. I'm already 5G anyway, got nowt to do with a SIM card.

I did a bit more digging about the website but couldn't find anything flagging it up as a potential scam. In fact the scam detectors came back with a high trust rating and comments like "good, well-known, safe, low risk, valid".

In future I'll stick to the sites I know, where I can pay with PayPal.

Might be worth giving your bank a call and requesting a new card.

Was searching for a particular fleece for my wife, which wasn't available in the right size on any of my usual websites, so I did a Google search. Found it on a website which, on the face of it, looked professional and genuine. In hindsight I obviously should have done more due diligence.

Anyway, entered name, address and credit card details. Transaction failed. Next I get a text message purporting to be from MBNA fraud department (no phone number displayed), saying did I just try to authorize a payment of £X (where X was £1 more than the order total). Message said I would shortly receive another message to which I should respond YES or NO as to whether I had authorized it. I also got a voicemail requesting that I call one of two phone numbers, or the card would be stopped. Since I'd already smelled a rat, I googled the numbers, and they are linked with fraud.

A bit later I got voice message replaying the speaking clock. Not sure what that was about but if it was an attempt to use credit off my phone then it won't have got them anywhere; I'm on a fixed price monthly plan with giffgaff and have £0 credit.

It sounds a bit similar to the scam northernladuk posted last year.

One of the phone numbers is an 0800 (the other 03330), so I'm half tempted to ring them and have a bit of fun at their expense.
