    Is there something I'm missing?
To use the VAT feature of Freeagent, I would have to maintain it properly as an accounting software (as far as I can see) just like SAGE hence double the effort. Having something like Snooky pointed out could not be any simpler.

Slightly confused here. Can I check the facts:
    1. Your company hasn't traded in 2 years
    2. You have VAT returns to do (which must be pretty small/simple, due to point 1)
    3. You don't want to spend money on a solution (probably due to points 1 & 2)
    4. You want to spend time developing a piece of code.

Having looked at the HMRC Developer Guide, it seems pretty much a simple thing to build (assuming you are from a developer background) and send figures from a CSV or a front end so just wondering if I am missing something. Does it have to be approved by HMRC? Any one build one?

Company has not traded since 2020 so don't fancy paying SAGE £12 monthly just to have an MTD bolt on. I should have deregistered instead of hoping to get back to outside IR35 contracts

They cost less than half of what IPSE does, provides the same level of legal cover, and has some MTD tools available for members.

I might just ask them why they are not providing one as well for their members.
