4 years older than you. I started on YTS scheme as a trainee computer operator. Spent my days mostly loading cartridges and tapes. Did that for a few years then become an Operations Analyst, writing JCL. Then into testing.

Wasn't so much about degrees but the pure number of applications. Madness....

Saw some stats on LinkedIn - a recent operations manager role had 5,629 applicants. And 100% of the applicants have a degree, so isn't made up of chancers trying their luck. We all know the market is bad but this is off the scale.

Was always told CV's should not be longer than 4 pages. Anymore than that they are binned. Don't know how true that is, but always kept mine to 4 pages anyway. Any roles over 10 years old just get a one-liner and nothing more. Asked Chat GPT to reformat mine a few months back. But can't say it's made...
