That's one way to bring down inflation even further......

For permie roles it seems that "internal hires" is the go-to term these days. Certainly explains the amount of rejections even for close to perfect fits. Or so I keep telling myself

A fair amount of Poles packed up and left, IT is paid really well in Poland (atm at least) so even with the constantly rising prices (property going absolutely mental) it's worth it. Plus you can do b2b there without any issues (it's pretty much the norm for employers to simply say "perm / b2b...

Not sure about inside, but lets not forget inside is rather a "new" thing, before reforms, everyone was outside earning tons more than permies. Even now with inside, if you pop £600 as your day rate, apparently the equivalent in permie land would be around 110k yearly, so effectively almost...

The money the contractor is on and that's why there's such a huge interest in becoming a "contractor", most people see it as steady income which is 2-3 times what you get as a perm. Very often even the work is the same, so why be the "dumb" one and go perm?

    The...

Sure but lets be honest, how many contractors are currently "used" that way? it's a nice idea, but most don't want to work this way and most employers don't really want the temp resource to work that way either....

Sure but you don't need people on £600+ doing it, if you have a desperate work force you can drive the rates super low....

I'm actually very curious how easy it is for HMRC to check this. If you are direct to a client, then become perm at the same client, perhaps rather easy, but going via agency to then going via umbrella or perm? They would need some info from the agency on who the client was, then check with the umbrella...

If you're a single / one of a few "contractors" at a client doing long stints I very much doubt hmrc will ever see this / care. They seem to go after large clients were loads of people do "contracting" when in fact they are all permies, the chance of winning something there are larger...

I remember UK used to be the odd one out as it simply said what's possible in a position with some of Europe asking for salary reqs. Now it seems pretty much whole of Europe has this and UK is also playing the "how low can you go" game. 35k isn't that crazy nowadays but for regular, non senior...

Agents / clients might be trying it on to see how low they can go, if there's a lot of people who are desperate for anything, someone will eventually bite. Besides that seems to be the case with perm positions in mainland Europe, they open up a perm position, post a job ad with a set of skills and have...

Had a valid contract signed at the start of the year, then around March couldn't put in hours to get the timesheet approved and the whole case unraveled itself. No idea when the contract stopped being valid, but if you take a step back to assess the situation I think "clusterf*ck" is a suitable...

Every article I read about rising min wage said that it will cause overall wages to grow as well as suddenly people on lower wages realise they earn minimum wage and so want a raise. Min wage only kicked in beginning of April, so surely it's too quick to be saying that it doesn't affect overall wage...

Yeah, 'them' as in "my" agency, assumption was they knew what they were doing, but perhaps they weren't...Spoke with the hiring manager at client co who's also surprised the whole chain is going, not just the "local" agency, but I guess at this point it's down to the agencies to...

Yeah there's clearly some cock up somewhere re informing the right people as "my" agency found out via me effectively (and this is again only because I'm fairly friendly with some people at the client co). I signed a renewal with them, so there's a contract in place, it's just that the last...

EU client, agency move from EU to UK

This might be a non issue...or fairly substantial, I haven't got all the info, so doing all sorts of worst-case-scenario overthinking.

I'm currently via a non UK / EU agency, doing work for an EU client, I invoice the agency, they invoice another "local" agency that the client...

21% not working and 50%+ reject inside IR35 contracts

Tax changes came in three years ago, why are we even talking about it as if it's just happened and people had no time to re-adjust?...

Sure, I was simply highlighting what others said several times already, that unless you have some links to the recruiter / client, or manage to get your CV in the first 10-20 CVs, your CV is most likely going to drown in a sea of other applications....

Europe is slightly better I'd say, UK still has positions but way more people applying, typically anything IT related is 100+ applications in the first 6-8hrs, this is hybrid mind you, anything remote is way more. Downside with Europe is having to know the local language, unless it's a big corp or Scandi...

  • Imho unless you are in some niche market and / or getting regular emails / messages about relevant contracts, you'd be mad to be leaving a perm position now. There seems to be close to no contracts out there atm and perm positions are regularly getting 100+ applications within the first few hours, there...
