Just like to point out the my POST ABOUT CRIME goes straight to light relief, where as this thread remains firmly in general.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I recommend a nice long weekend in Budapest. Nice places, some great restaurants eating dishes such as Halászlé (Fish soup), Sült libamájszelet (pan-fried goose liver), Almával töltött fácán (pheasant stuffed with apples), Szarvastokány erdei gombával (venison stew with wild mushrooms) and Fogasszelet bakonyi módra (fillet of pike-perch Bakony style).

Two that spring to mind are:-

            Biarritz

            V. Kossuth Lajos tér 18, Tel: 302 3945, E-mail: [email protected], Website: www.biarritz.hu, Open: 9am-11pm daily, All major credit cards, Metro: M2 Kossuth tér

Just a stone's throw away from the Hungarian Parliament, Biarritz is, at the moment, one of the nicest restaurants in Pest. Intimate candlelit surroundings, coupled with some adventurous Hungarian cooking make for a great evening out. Starters such as Surumi fish with shrimp sticks, followed by more recognisable, well-prepared Hungarian main courses are very good. Perhaps, a table too many squeezed in, but a fave nonetheless.

            Király - expensive but lovely

            I. Táncsics Mihály u. 25, Tel: 212 9891, Fax: 212 8566, Website: www.kiralyrestaurant.hu, Open: noon-midnight daily, All major credit cards, Metro: M2 Moszkva tér then Várbusz to Castle Hill

As one of the Castle District's most established restaurants, the Király serves mainly Hungarian fare in relaxed, elegant surroundings. Starters such as roast goose liver in Tokaji jelly and Hortobágy palacsinta (stuffed meat pancakes) are both nicely balanced, while steaks and game dishes are also well-prepared. Puddings are a strong point too, with a selection that includes plum pie with cinnamon almond sauce and Belgian chocolate mousse.

The Kempinski Hotel Corvinus is a very classy place.

            Synopsis of a city:

As one of Europe's truly great capital cities, first time visitors are usually overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the city. Divided in two by the Danube, the numerous vantage points from hilly Buda and Óbuda offer spectacular views of a flat, busy, sprawling Pest on the river's eastern bank

A city that manages to surprise and enthral in equal measure, reminders of Budapest's rich and often tragic history are ever present. Indeed, the scars of the nation's crushed 1956 uprising (which have yet to fade from the nation's psyche) are still evident from the many bullet hole ridden buildings around the city.
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.
