And we can wine and dine in front of open fires, in a Castle on the Banks of the ....................Have you seen my Elephant impersonation?
mmmmmmmmmmm
*janey in determined to ignore the bit about an elephant mode*
You could do a European tour of CUKers. You would save a lot on hotel bills but you would have to have a strong back (and stomache probably).
Or Ryanair to Friedrichshaven. Rent a car. Cross Lake constance on the ferry over the alps via St Moritz then down lake Como or Garda. I would suggest overnighting overlooking the lake. Down to Milan for a bit of shopping then across to the adriatic coast. Ravenna is lovely then possibly Venice. Then back through the dolomites. Up to Cortina then take the route over the Gross Glockner into Austria. Salzburg then Munich then back to starting airport.
Much better on a motorbike.
Lots of hotels in this area see this time of year as low season so dropping in is easy. Most will call ahead for you. I have found "Jolly" hotels a good chain in Italy.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Step back, have a think and adjust my own own attitude from time to time
