I get the impression jazz is for people who play music, not for people who listen to music.

My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think. -
Jazz seems to expose the mechanics of music. I can see how some would appreciate the raw, exposed nature of it.
I just prefer my music finished off.My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

I don't mind it too much, it's a bit depressing. I do however have a "Dinner Jazz" (whatever the feck that is) CD that I picked up a few years ago at a wedding fair... I still listen to it now and again, it's kinda soothing as opposed to the "Top-yer-self Jazz" you usually hear.Originally posted by RichardCranium View PostI get the impression jazz is for people who play music, not for people who listen to music.Bazza gets caught

I don't like improvisation. I can see why someone would sit in on a jamming session, but cannot understand why someone would choose to just listen.Originally posted by DS23 View Postyou mean you don't like improvisation and you prefer classical?
What is "classical jazz"? Is it that zibbidie-boobedy-boo-boo bollocks? My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

"Jazz. Like the blues, but without the optimism."

that'll be the lovely modal stuff by miles davis and the super bossa nova work by stan getz and charlie byrd plus things by dinah washington and nina simone with maybe a little dave brubeck i expect. very popular for good reason it is gentle and sophisticated. won't offend or hurt.Originally posted by cailin maith View PostI don't mind it too much, it's a bit depressing. I have found out who the daily caller is.
It is Capital One credit cards people chasing Kim Lucas.
(Thank you for the 1471 suggestion, DS23.)
I tried explaining to the droid that called but she hung up on me,
I phoned them back and eventually got an automated response that told me to ring an 0800 number.
Did so and eventually got a human. They said if I give them Kim's account details, they will update the number. I said I don't know Kim. Sothey asked for Kim's new number. This went on for about five minutes.
Eventually I got the idiot to understand. He said he would put a note on MY record so they don't call me again. After another few minutes he finally understood I don't have a Capital One account ("So why are you calling us?")

Finally, he offers to put a note on Kim's record to not call me. "That's nice" I said. "But don't you want the telephone number I am talking about?"
I look forward to their call tomorrow...My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

On that Wrong-Note - is Billie Holiday jazz or blues? I have had a 'domestic' over this question in the past.+50 Xeno Geek Points
