I found a tip that, if you change the APN on the modem from "3internet" to "three.co.uk", you get much better and more reliable performance

We shall see - I'm using it at the moment, and hopefully it won't start grinding to a halt the way it does with their normal setting.

Actually, there's probably not much point in using it at the moment - it always seems to have the most problems on weekday evenings, which is presumably when their data network is busiest. It probably makes more sense to wait until next week and try it then

tpd will never die! but it certainly has slow days since March 2008. That was when the mods stole the post count : before then there was usually somebody to drivel to 24/7.
