@rse - the Wii finally gave up the ghost tonight with the optical drive emitting the most horrendous noise. Fortunately the chap at Nintendo assured me it wouldn't cost any more than £28 to fix it, including shipping it off to them and getting it back again. Phew.

You might want to get CM off the subject of babies - she has a "broody monster that is currently holding [her] biological clock hostage" - sounds dangerousComment

I'm just about to watch that five programme - Brits Who Changed the World, I think it is - from earlier, about the creation of the game Elite on the Beeb back in the Eighties
It looks like this series is based on a book I bought a year or two ago... ah yes, The Backroom Boys: The Secret Return of the British Boffin - excellent book
Of course five's on-demand player is Windows only, so I had to fire up a virtual machine... which then insisted on installing a new version of WMP, which of course required a restart... whereupon XP decided to install another 26 updates before actually restarting...
Thanks for the seamless computing experience, Bill
Still, it's always mildly amusing to see the Internet Explorer logo in the OS X Dock at the left of the screen, and the Windows taskbar sitting along the bottomComment

Correction: Brits Who Made the Modern World, Episode 3.
Well, that was most entertaining - made me all nostalgic, especially when they talked about "two hours to save three bytes" being "time well spent"
You really can't beat assembly language
If you're curious, Ian Bell has made the source code of the BBC version available... 6502 assembler with virtually no commentsComment

Comments are for wimps...
If it was hard to write...
That's the last of 6 programmes by the way.
The others included the Black Arrow rocket & Prospero, Vodaphone, the Harrier, the tilting train (the original APT not the abortion), and the Lotus 25 formula one car.Comment
