WTF is that all about, cycle around a track with about 150 other people, then sprint every now and then. Gain a lap, loose a lap...Originally posted by Bear View PostExcept in the Madison!

The Keirin is even weirder, chase a moped around the track for a few laps then sprint like buggery for the line.Originally posted by FiveTimes View PostWTF is that all about, cycle around a track with about 150 other people, then sprint every now and then. Gain a lap, loose a lap...

Madison is a variation on the points race. It's a bit like a stage race in the Tour de France held on an oval track. You get points for winning the "sprint" at set stages of the race plus points for lapping the main field. Doesnt matter who crosses the line first though, it's who has the most points.
In the Madison the scoring works the same except you compete in teams of two and tag each other in and out of the race like a relay. The guy hading over grabs the hand of the guy coming in and uses his momentum to slingshot him on into the race. At 40-50km/h it's scary stuff.
And yes, I've been watching way too much of this stuff."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment
