I am laughing cos I think it is the worst way of doing it. my preference in order would be :-
1. Drive to NE/Sid
2. Drive to West Malling - then get train takes just over an hour with change
3. coach see http://www.newenterprisecoaches.co.uk/
4. the route you suggested
Without knowing exactly where bf works it is hard to compare them all.
I suggest full research into those routes with prices, complexity, chances of it going fubar, etcetc.

the issue with coach is walking over Waterloo bridge - though it is cheap. I guess 1/2/3 are similar cost? But it depends on your preference of speed vs driving - 1 involves alot of driving, 3 is none.
I used to work next to Waterloo East at 3i - 91 Waterloo road.

I was there from April to October 1992 - I hated being outside the city but there were few jobs around in 1992. I was at Hill Samuel before which was in effect closed down - though it got me through the bad days of 1991.

My main memories there were :-
1. white wednesday (16th September 1992)
2. being seated next to fax desk where all the secretaries went to. it was absolutely top totty there - very hard to concentrate.
