I hadn't realised that you could actually make any money in traditional Tech Supp for the masses.

Not vast amounts, but suppliers require backup for their customers.
The profit margin is thin but volume is the key to making a decent and steady profit/income.

a lot of end users haven't a clue past pressing the on switch and clicking the mouse.
A lot of corner shops and small businesses now rely on IT, and small training seminars can bring in money too (with little outlay)

TBH mate, I wouldn't know where to start... I like to think I have a degree of common sense, but have very little business acumen.

at the end of the day, a card in a shop window or a small ad in the paper can bring in the bread and butter

I'm not enquiring as to the state of your finances, please don't think I am - but, realistically, how much can one make out of, for example, having a card in the local Co-op or something. The reason for my enquiry is that I work 4 on 4 off, so have a lot of spare time...
