Just reading an article on the BBC news website about how bad subtitles are for live tv shows and how they can make the programmes unwatchable - for example subtitling "being given to our toddlers" as "being given to ayatollahs".

However the second paragraph of the article starts "An report".

I looked into it and then thought "there's only two of us in the house, the internet is fast enough for what we use it for, why should I pay £15 a month more for extra speed I'm not going to notice?"

Same logic behind me still having freeview with 50 channels I never watch instead of cable/satellite with 200 channels I never watch.

I upgraded my fibre at the beginning of last week, the main thing I've noticed is I have to get up 10 minutes earlier in the morning.

The area I live in was one of the very first places in the country to get fibre, back in the 1980s. I know it was NTL before it was Virgin Media, but I can't remember what it was before NTL, if anything.

It would, I suspect, be considerably more hassle to get a non-fibre connection set up than to just stick with fibre. The phone hasn't worked for five or six years, as I stopped reporting it after the fifth time they fixed it. Other than that, it's pretty reliable (pace the hassle over Christmas).

              Indeed.

I, however, do have the murdochian crapola with an infinity of channels I never watch.

There was an interesting docu on PBS America the other month though.

All about thermonuclear weapons, which is always enjoyable.

                Indeed.

Same here since I switched to porridge coz of the inclement weather.

Where I am NTL was Cable & Wireless, and before that a company called Nynex, I believe.
