Solicitor is asking for stuff that we haven't got, and the vendors have already moved and left the country. Although I now know that the neighbour has a key, which makes the "when will we get the keys?" discussion easier!

Rather you than me. Hope it goes well though.

We're going to go round tonight and see if they have left any information for us. We have no idea what they've left inside, either, but to have packed up and moved within two weeks of the auction is pretty speedy!

Unfortunately, the car that they have left in the driveway has already been given to someone else, or we'd have had a car as well as a church.

off to look at a half finished conversion somewhere between yorkshire and lancashire tomorrow night.

Estate agent rang to say that the previous owners have left the country, need a quick sale and the current buyer is running into problems.

Fingers crossed, they have left a file with all the building information in there, as we haven't got anything from building regulations to say that it's all OK.

Solicitor is getting angsty as well, and their solicitor is worse than useless.

Have the council not got any records of work commencing? They won't have a completion certificate because its not completed.

Worst case scenario is that I have to borrow a few k from my parents to fund the purchase until this house sells. It's all doable, it's just not knowing whether I'll suddenly have to get a bankers draft at the last minute to pay for the house myself.

I've explained the absence of the completion certificate a number of times to my solicitor, but she wants something that says that they are happy with the work.

I know that buildings regs people have been round because I discussed it with the vendors - they were told "it all looks fine, give me a ring whenever you get it all finished and I'll give you the certificate then", but ideally the solicitor (as she's acting for the bank as well, as she reminds me EVERY TIME I SPEAK / EMAIL / WRITE to her) wants something in writing.

I guess if not that there is probably some kind of insurance I can get, but that's an extra expense. £139 for insurance in case anyone suddenly claims ownership of the access road; £66 for insurance in case the church commissioners say that we've breached the covenants....

Speak to building control at the council NOW. They may be able to provide something for the current state of play. You don't however want the completion certificate unless you really can't avoid it because that may mean that when you start work again you will need to fork out another set of building control fees which could be £1k or more.
