Maybe I'd be a bad parent... let her do what she finds interesting or easy. With GCSEs it is quantity, not quality, that counts. And what you do your degree in has little to do with the job you get. (Except for law and medicine, of course.)

I tend to agree with you, she has to be happy with the subjects, and she would enjoy art more than engineering.
She has chosen history as she enjoys it
