Hallelujah!

I've spent the last couple of hours trying to build Subversion from the source on an Amazon EC2 machine instance - they run Fedora Core (Linux to you and me), but by default they have a very lean, stripped-down installation.

This means that I've been typing ./configure, watching a load of gubbins scroll past, then seeing it stop, claiming that some library it needs is missing.

So I Google that, then have to work out how to install it (why don't these open-source projects have a link on the home page saying "This is how to install it", or something?), then finally find the answer in some German Linux Users mailing list archive, then go back to ./configure and get a different message



However, this time it seems to have worked!
