    Morning all

Wet. There has been much rain this morning. Currently 16 degrees with a high of 19 expected. More rain forecast with potential for a break in the cloud mid afternoon before it comes back again. Barometer down to 993 mBar.

    Sunrise 06:09; Sunset 19:54 BST

Went to bed super early last night as was completely knackered. Glad I can have a lie in tomorrow.

      Shopping done!

I ended up going to Not-As-Big Sainsbury's, because a check of the Viz calendar showed that I'll need to go to Big next week for the new issue

I found most things I wanted, though one element of a new recipe I'm planning to try wasn't available, and is apparently not stocked there. But it's more like a garnish, to a certain extent, in that I can still make the fundamental dish and get a feel for how to balance the flavours and spices and so on, then try enhancing it with that at a later date.

Most other stuff I wanted was there, though it was necessary to reach right to the back to get half-decent dates on most of the meat

I ended up buying rather a lot of meat, in fact, there being several dishes I fancy trying out or just haven't had in a bit. This means I'll be cooking most days next week, rather than grabbing something out of the freezer. But now that work involves stuff that's more along the lines of what I enjoy doing, I'm feeling a lot less fed up at the end of the working day, so I reckon I'll be OK with settling down for a bit of cooking most days

The corner cupboard door has been reattached!

In the hassle of dealing with the delivery blokes on Tuesday, I'd adopted the straightforward approach of unscrewing the hinges from the door. But later investigation revealed that I could have just popped the hinges off where they attach to the cupboard by pressing a little tab at the back of each one

So I took them off and reattached them to the door, but it was quite unwieldy trying to get them lined up to attach to the cupboard again, and I gave up after a minute or two; the door stood neatly in the corner and wasn't getting in the way, at least as compared to the sodding great machine

But I just found an Amazon delivery box that was exactly the right height to rest the door on while lining up the hinges! With that, it only took about two seconds to get them clicked back into place, and they don't even need readjusting

Finally, a drain blown king cap that fits has arrived!

It doesn't seem to be a perfect seal, but only in the sense of running the tap for a while results in a tiny drop around the edge, which would probably evaporate before getting to the point of falling under most circumstances. I gave it an extra quarter turn or so after finger tight with a strap wrench, but I don't want to risk over tightening it and it's fine like that

So I have finally been able to put the dishwasher on - except I can only open the door about halfway down because the new machine is in the way

Oh well, it's just another minor annoyance. It's on now; I'll keep checking for drips or worse from time to time, but it'll probably be fine

"Drain blown king"? I think you meant "drain blocking", autocorrect

Tea has been a rack of smoky BBQ ribs and chips

This was accompanied by the rest of the Trucking Hell I started watching last week

And the dishwasher happily did its thing without anywhere getting flooded!

The afternoon was all rather pleasant, perfect timing for the walk down the road to pick up my freshly cleaned winter duvet. I also had an appointment for a pedicure that was very nicely done.

Invoicing done on my return home.

Watched Only Connect and the latest Fake or Fortune. Very tired again so dozed on the sofa while listening to Add to Playlist.

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was The Woman in the Yard (2025) in which a family are dismayed and perplexed when a veiled woman clad in black turns up, sitting in front of their house, and moving a bit closer whenever they aren't looking. Quite a decent little horror story and, unlike many films nowadays, it knew how not to outstay its welcome by clocking in at around eighty minutes (not counting credits)

After that, onwards with the saga with a rewatch of Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010). A great improvement on the rather lacklustre one that preceded it, with plenty of mayhem augmented by good plotlines and some genuinely unpleasant baddies - the worst being the Hollywood producer who wasn't even infected

Finally, a further episode of Dune: Prophecy, to wit, Twice Born (TV Episode 2024) which was so good that it suckered me into watching the next episode, In Blood, Truth (TV Episode 2024) as well

                      Goodnight all
