    Morning.

    Saturday.

    Dry.

    Intermittently sunny.

    Simpsonsesque in parts.

Cool in here at 17.7 deg, 18.5 deg in the kitchen, 17.5 in the leanto, 15.6 in the saltinghouse.

1010 mBar, 29.825 in Hg, 757.56 Torr, 14.6488 psi, (down from 1015 last night if the barometer was tapped), 78% RH (GDR hair), 69% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 8th of October 2019 NF was watching more S3 eps of Breaking Bad (including that fan favourite "The Fly"), whereas in sunny Neath it was grey, gloomy, damp, & depressing, but oddly enough, rather warmer then that it has been recently.

    Smalls in the WM.

Smalls out of the WM and pegged out on the line.

    Shirts in the WM.

Shirts out of the WM and pegged out on the line.

    Cottons in the WM.

Cottons out of the WM and pegged out on the line.

    It picked with rain.

The ongoing cleaning of the salting house is now complete, or as complete as it's going to get.

    Lunch: beans on toast etc.

Entertainment: Moneybox waffling on about something or other.

    The News Quiz.

Looks like the accursed honeysuckle infesting the bottom of the garden is the japanese variety.

    Glyphosate kills it. .

Shirts in off the line & roughly iRoned.

Cottons need the iRon in off the line & roughly iRoned.

    Smalls in off the line.

    All now airing upstairs.

    Bed remade.

Gosh my back is playing up but not in the usual way.

Freecell score: 91%, running average: 86%.

Tea: chilli con carne etc. Meh.

Entertainment: Weatherman Walking: Devil's Bridge, Margam Park.

Dixon of Dock Green S21 E5 "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads (1975)". Ooooer, there's a Sweeney style Ford Consul in car chase. And Brian Glover as a naughty man. Well that was tedious. The car chase was the best of it.

Castles: Britain's Fortified History: E1. More on the Norman bastards.

The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre: "Solo for a sparrow (1962)". Glyn Houston. Cumberbatch's mum (Wanda Ventham). William "Champions" Gaunt. Jack "Nelson Gabriel" May. Neil McCarthy. Michael Caine. Murray Melvin. That was rather good compared with some of the offerings in the series.

    Last 20 minutes of "Skyfall".

Last half hour of "The Equalizer (2014)" with that Denzel Washington chap. Things to do with a nailgun while fighting Russian gangsters.

        Afternoon all

Cloudy with spits of rain. But no more forecast for the rest of the day. Currently 16 degrees with a high of 19 expected. Barometer down to 1014 mBar.

Laundry about to go on the WL. Bed stripped and airing, and the linen will go into the WM soon. Deciding whether to hire a Zipcar and so some storage unit runs.

          Home again!

Made it to my brother's place without any undue delays, where I was able to sign the IHT form. Then we had a chat, and headed down into town (if town it be). The petrol station is also the Post Office, so we were able to post the form off, and that's all done and dusted.

Onwards to the local deli/café, where I had an extremely good pork, sage and leek sausage roll and a coffee for lunch. I have a spare sausage roll, just in case, which is now in the fridge

Then back to his place, which proved to be a much tougher walk than the way down, as he lives up an extremely steep hill. That's the Peak District for you; I suppose it would be the slight bump district otherwise

And so to look through a load of boxes of old magazines and newspapers that our Dad had stored in his loft. Many of them seemed of limited value, though he must have had some reason for keeping them. But then I found an old TV Times (older than me) of which there were two copies, which suggested they merited further investigation - and sure enough, they recorded the broadcast of a TV play he wrote for Granada!

So it was worth going through them all if only to save those from the recycling; I've got one copy, and my brother kept the other

Then I headed home, but I made the planned detour via the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop. So as well as a sausage roll, there's a load of excellent chops, steaks, ribs, sausages, and bacon in the fridge. I'll have to sort it all out, and squeeze the stuff I can't eat in the next couple of days into whatever space I can find in the freezer

I've barely recovered from disposing of 70 or so years of railway magazines hoarded by my dad: my collection of Practical Electronics, Practical Wireless, Practical Television, EPE, and Wireless World is destined for the same fate, the EXE mags and the Program Now! mags met the recycling a couple of weeks ago.

There's a couple of boxes of databooks (Siemens mostly with some Ferranti & Plessey thrown in for good measure) that could well go the same way.

I've still got a few copies of EXE, along with all the copies of Byte and PCW. I am beginning to wonder if there's much point hanging on to them; I think the Internet Archive has every issue of Byte from the years when it was worth reading. Not sure about Dr. Dobb's Journal either, as they gave away a free disc containing every copy up to that point, not long before it was killed off

The fridge may be full of meaty goodness, but I couldn't be bothered to cook. So tea has been delivered from Five Guys

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was True Lies (1994), a humorous thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. I suspect this relied to a certain extent on the popularity of its stars at the time it came out, as parts of the film seemed to play on that, and of course that doesn't play so well thirty years down the line. But that's a minor niggle as it's a good story, and builds to a highly entertaining climax in which (spoiler alert, if one can spoil something three decades on) excellent use is made of that great British invention, the Harrier. Good stuff

And as there's a Hunger Games prequel out, I need to reacquaint myself with the originals before watching it; for although it comes before chronologically, it will doubtless reference or foreshadow stuff from the stories that happened later. So a rewatch of The Hunger Games (2012) was necessary, though also welcome, as they really are very good films

                  Goodnight all

A pleasant perambulation was had earlier before it gets too hot. Successful day’s gardening yesterday and hopefully more today.

                      Morning.

                      Sunday.

                      Dry.

                      Sunny.

                      Blue sky.

Cool in here at 17.1 deg, 18 deg in the kitchen, 16.5 deg in the leanto.

1012 mBar, 29,884343 in Hg, 759.1 Torr, 14.6778 psi, (down from 1013 last night), 78% RH (GDR hair), 66% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 8th of October 2019 WTFH went for a walk, was off the painkillers, and was searching for a missing guineafowl, I got wet on the walk to Tonna lock after which the sun came out, whereas NF was waiting for the rain to arrive whilst ravelling the sleeve of care by knitting some soup. Or something. .

Getting concerned with some of the stuff that's coming out of my sinuses, I'm sure there was a bit of brain in that last one. .

Walk (unabbreviated) walked during which an acquaintance from years ago appeared, he seems to be the only one of the Sunday morning crew apart from me who's still alive.

                      Lunch: beans on toast etc.

Entertainment: some bollox on R4 about that Rylan chap. When Jack Dee came on it went <click> extremely rapidly.

The last 15 minutes of a thing about the Pacific War complete with nuclear explosions. I wonder what Glyn the ex POW would have thought of this, he was at Nagasaki on the day.

A brief viewing of some Mini (Austin not BMW) race with nutters hurtling around some track or other on ITV4, prior to the BTCC.

Yet more D Day stuff, this time on PBS.

Freecell score: dire, walk away before

The dvd library on the stairs has been moved, cleaned behind & under, then replaced more or less where it was before. . WTF did I buy all this tulip for?

Tea: soup etc. with added chilli to attempt to make it a little more inneresting. Not that it worked particularly. .

Entertainment: thing on R4 about some film director chap. The one that did Michael Collins & Mona Lisa, the latter of which I think I've seen, the former residing unwatched in one of the piles on the stairs.

For some unknown & unknowable reason I've had a desire for a boiled egg sandwich, said desire has been satisfied yesterday & today. I discovered I can boil said egg in the kettle (you can't cook them in the poppity ping because they explode.

Skinwalker Ranch bollox on Blaze: "Something's Up".

I've decided to give the subpar Flipping Bangers a miss, it's about a Merc SLK this week.

Ancient Unexplained Files: More bollox but on DMAX instead.
