Letter in the post for the former occupier of this here property. Turns out she is, or was, a "Specialist Pharmacist - Medicine" at the LRI. This is a mailshot about some conference concerning her field of expertise

And a search of the registry of pharmacists reveals that she's moved to Leeds. Either that or she's still in Leicester and the General Pharmaceutical Council couldn't read her handwriting

If the LRI is anything like the IET that's quite possible.

Just changed the house number on my address after a mere 40 years, only to have the post code changed from SA to CA which meant I was sent stuff about lectures in the Carlisle area rather than Swansea.

Not that it made much difference since I've only been to one lecture in 40 years.

        Afternoon all

Sunny with a mix of wispy and chunky fluff. Currently 25 degrees with a high of 27 expected. There might be a light shower late afternoon. Barometer down to 1014 mBar.

Lazy morning. Towel wash in the WM.

Discovered Extraordinary Portraits on BBC. Only series 3 available on iPlayer at the moment. The first episode of which is so far a good mix of interesting and entertaining. Keen to see what the outcome will be. Bill Bailey makes for a good presenter.

As expected, can't hear much from the park; certainly a lot quieter than the Caribbean Carnival the other week, which had the stage on the other side. We're only around 400 yards from the stage today, but it sounds quieter than if somebody was listening to a transistor radio down on the lawn

I had a look on iPlayer and in the aerial shots, our location is in view but the buildings aren't visible, being well concealed by the plethora of trees between here and the park

Apparently they won't let you out once you're in (or won't let you back in, which comes to the same thing) so I don't think local businesses will be making the killing they might have hoped for - nobody's even allowed to park on this side, so the local shops might have seen a little foot traffic from locals on their way there, but that'll be it

Parking and shops have long been a contentious issue around here. Outside of the little enclave I live in with huge villas and apartment blocks, most of the neighbourhood is terraces of medium-sized Victorian villas or two-up-two-downs, so there's hardly any off-street parking and nowhere to put any. But it's also a fairly short walk into town and to the railway station, not to mention the University across the park, so commuters would take up the on-street parking, to the disgruntlement of local residents who couldn't find anywhere to park, and shopkeepers who wanted shoppers to be able to park near them.

The idea of a residents' permit scheme had long been floated, but the shopkeepers weren't happy with that either: they wanted to be a destination for people who don't live locally rather than relying on local trade.

But the other year, the council finally found a compromise that everybody could live with. They instituted a residents' permit scheme, but a permit is only required Monday to Friday between 10am and 11am. So commuters can't park here, but outsiders can park for the shops during the rest of the day. I reckon that's a very ingenious solution that manages to keep everybody happy enough

Our road isn't in the scheme though; it starts just after us, as everywhere along here has a reasonable amount of off-road parking anyway.

The towels were washed and put on the line. Followed by clothing and smalls. A couple of grey looking clouds looked a bit threatening but amounted to nothing.

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Dywizjon 303 (2018) aka Squadron 303 aka 303 Squadron: Heroes of the Battle of Britain, being based, possibly a little loosely, on the true story of the WWII RAF squadron made up largely of Polish pilots. I'm not sure the dogfight scenes were particularly realistic, and 303 Squadron flew Hurricanes which tended to be used more for taking out the bomber formations once the Spitfires had drawn off the fighter escort. Still, it's good stuff and, being made by Poles, it gets rather more into the early political issues around the RAF assuming foreigners wouldn't be any bloody good than a British film probably would

And then a rewatch of Taken 3 (2014) which does a better job of wrapping up the trilogy than most third films do

Just think: Kylie will be less than four hundred yards away from me tomorrow evening

                      Goodnight all
