Google Maps is absolutely convinced there's a road closure on the A6 and tries to send you off through Higham Ferrers. There is no road closure (it's in a couple of weeks and only at night, according to the signs) so I ignored it completely, but I noticed both going and coming back that the stretch of road in question seemed atypically quiet; presumably the centre of Higham Ferrers, such as it is, is unusually busy

I've always thought it's an odd little place, the way that rather than being in a clump like most small towns, it's sort of stretched out linearly along a mile or so of the road that used to be the A6 until the bypass was built
Oh, and it's still raining, in fact it's raining rather more vigourously than it was.
Not rivers in the gutter heavy but enough to need an umbrella heavy.
No rain here yet but the radar shows it off to the west. Apparently it should be here in two or three hours, remain for most of the night, and possibly continue through much of tomorrow
