X7 home again home again jiggety jig.

Tea/dinner this evening was M&S battered haddock with an assortment of veg that seems to get ever greater.

Followed by the last of stewed plums with custard.

All of which was Very Nice.

As to what to watch, that is undecided currently since there seems to be such a restricted choice of epics available.

This afternoon someone wanted some bits & pieces (white leds, resistors, switches) to go in a replica of an Orville blaster.

    Takes all sorts.
    When the fun stops, STOP.

Not really, but they have started testing it... in Live.

Them: This isn’t working when we do xyz

Me: Did it work when you tested it? (I know they didn’t)

Them: You didn’t design it properly.

Me: Did you tell me it needed to do xyz? (Again, they didn’t tell me)

          Them: Can you fix it?

This evening's epic has turned out to be "National Treasure 2 Book of Secrets" with Nick Cage et al.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) - IMDb

One al being the Esteemed Helen Mirren.

It's moderately amusing in a moderately amusing sort of way.

I've got the first one, though I haven't watched it yet. Mirrenless, it looks like, though there are a few other names I recognise in there.

                Oh, and another one...

                Them: It’s running slow

Me: How many users are on?

                Them: 15.

Me: How much data per user?

                Them: About 1,000 lines

Me: When you stress tested it, how many users and how much data?

                Them: Mumble mumble.

Me: Let me check, ah yes, 2 users and 100 lines per user.

Sometimes my inner BOFH kicks in when I look around an office and think about which window looks the least secure

This is not a database issue, but a client issue. The database is returning the raw data instantly. It’s then transmitted to android clients. These clients then need to perform various calculations and transformations locally. That’s their fundamental business brief.
We’re looking at doing all the calcs etc on the server, then sending the results. Gives them less “flexibility”, but they don’t need that, while it should give them performance too.
The fact that their business process is flawed is not allowed to be questioned.

The first one is Mirrenless IIRC, just has Jon Voight as his dad.

The 2nd one was ok, though nothing to write home about.

                      <hiatus>

Another observation is that Mr Callan's son appears as a copper.

There's no way Mr Callan would have let them get away with that nonsense.

It'd have been A Red File all the way.
