Just been out the back, and it turns out it's now pleasantly cool out there, with a breeze and everything. How come none of that gets in here!
I know Victorians wanted to keep the heat in their houses to save on coal, but this is ridiculous. Even if the weather cools down as promised, it'll be another week before this place drops its temperature to match

Need to have a place that has North and South facing rooms, or East and West facing rooms.
Incidentally whoever built my place is a feckwit - they followed the Victorian ideal except the kitchen which had a pantry in it faces West....

East for the living room and bedroom with windows around eight feet high spanning the width of the living room, so that side heats up very nicely in the morning. West for the kitchen, so that warms up just when the oven's on of an evening. And the walls are made of very thick, dense brick (it's a nightmare to drill into) to ensure the heat stays in the fabric of the building once it's in.
Oh, and it appears there's soundproofing between the floors, which also acts as very effective insulation
