The washing machine is working away like a good 'un

The great thing about washing machines is that they create the illusion that one is engaged in some form of essential work, when in fact one is just dossing around between the trivial tasks of putting stuff into them and taking it out again when they've finished

Went out to the shops to get bits and pieces and went into Halfords. Tried to buy a puncture repair kit and find a tyre pressure gauge but there was no-one at the till so I chucked it on the counter and walked out. Went to the supermarket then went to another well-known bike shop and brought said items. The gauge is actually for my car tyres.

Had a nap this afternoon, which I normally avoid, but a great tiredness was upon me

I ended up kipping for about three hours and waking up in great confusion as to where I was and when, with the ominous possibility of "morning" and "somewhere I need to leave to go to work" looming large in my mind

Luckily it turned out to still be home on Saturday, and teatime

          Chinese leftovers for dinner

Now I need to get my act together. I'm going out for a drink, meeting up in a pub in the city centre - only a few dozen yards in, but still, not somewhere I venture much these days

Well, that turned into a minor pub-crawl

The place I originally suggested we meet up in turned out to have both a DJ, and a private party that had bagged the half of the pub where you could hear yourself think despite the DJ; one to go on the list of pubs to only visit on weekdays

So we finished our first pints in there quite quickly and headed just down the road to another good pub. However they close at eleven even on Saturdays, so before midnight we were heading out of town.

We were passing a place we used to go to a lot after all the best pubs were demolished, as it was the best pub left, but then had a terrible landlord from London arrive. I suggested we pop in there and it turned out that the truly excellent assistant manager was back and apparently keeping the ale very well, and the landlord/manager had mellowed out somewhat and wasn't as much of a dick as before. And as several old friends still go there (mainly out of sheer obstinacy in the face of the landlord's attempts to drive them away, which now seem to have subsided a little) it was a pleasant end to the evening

I left my mate at the bottom of his road commenting that he now had to explain to his wife, who's not that "pubby", that going out to the pub earlier than usual doesn't mean getting home from the pub earlier than usual

              Morning all.

Was supposed to be up and out on the bike by 07:00 but the alarm went off and I really couldn't be arsed today, so stayed in bed.

Might go for a potter later. Then again I might just stay in my dressing gown all day.
