Originally posted by NickFitz View PostMore accurately, it happened in 2014 but they only just found out about it within the last month or so. It's not that they knew about it and didn't tell anyone.
If their admittance is linked to the attempted sale of a chunk of the data in August and that forced their hand it's entirely possible they knew about it well before then but didn't 'fess up to it. It wouldn't be the first time a big corporation has sat on a major security breach and hoped it would just go away.
Especially since they are in the middle of negotiations for the sale of the business to Verizon."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

The chip shop doesn't appear to have re-opened
It's got a fancy new sign and shutter, and they were refitting the interior. Maybe the people who have it now have decided not to open much past teatime. But half-eight on a Friday evening seems like a very early time for a chip shop on a busy main road to have shutComment
