Back at the hotel now after a very entertaining evening, topped off with a pint or more in the Dolphin Tavern, just over the road from the hotel. I've never been in there before because it doesn't open at weekends and I'm not often in the vicinity of the hotel if I'm in London during the week
One hundred and one years and six days ago, the pub was destroyed by a bomb from a Zeppelin. It was rebuilt (obviously, this isn't a Brigadoon-in-Holborn scenario) and on the wall is the clock from the original pub, badly scorched to the face but still clearly showing the time 10:40, when it stopped as the bomb hit.Comment
