    I started my "festive" shopping yesterday. Got stuff bought and wrapped and handed out

      Well I had chilli and rice for lunch.

      A bit of a treat since they were both microwaved stuff from Morrisons.

      For tea I had the remainder of the lentil <pffffft> soup from Thursday.

      It always tastes better after a couple of days in the bottom of the fridge.

        There we are then.

        3rd load of washing on its way.

        Socks & a pair of inside out jeans.

        The knickers & shirts was load 2.

        Towels were load 1.

        I wonder where I can get another roller towel from.

        Maybe I'll have to make one out of a bath sheet.

        Anyone know how sewing machines (1950s Singer treadle) work?

          Looking forward to the roast lamb tomorrow.

          Bit bored with beef.

          Never have roast pork for some reason.

                Lots of noise from the big firework display in a park across the city.

                    Yep.
                    <mrs beaton mode>
                    First feed the cotton from your bobbin to the needle
                    </mrs beeton mode>
                    Then, position fabric suitably, and move it between the foot and the plate whilst depressing pedal accordingly.
                    Snap the thread from below the needle point once all sewing is complete/one wishes to start sewing from a different place on the same fabric.

                    As far as I have observed (and I have observed extensively), the 'winding thread onto bobbin and then threading the machine' part of the operation is where 80% of the skill is involved. The other 20% being in not sewing ones digits to a piece of fabric.

                    Is this a manual specimin, or an early electric model?
