How much is fish and chips these days? Haven't had it in ages.
Seems to vary widely. There's a really good chippy up the road from me, a family firm that's been there for at least forty years, that does cod & chips for a fiver, haddock & chips about 50p less. That's for a medium-size fillet, which is as much as I can eat. Large fillet is about 70p to a quid more, but I always end up leaving some of that. If you go for a small fillet and correspondingly smaller portion of chips, you can have a fish supper for about £3.50.
Went shopping. I managed to time it perfectly to hear the miserable born-in-a-workhouse-died-in-a-lunatic-asylum story from Tuesday morning being repeated on Weekend Woman's Hour
