Why are these PIC datasheets so fecking complicated?

I have to try stuff just to find out if I've read & understood the damn thing correctly.

And I'm not altogether certain even after doing that.

Ho hum.

But we appear to be getting there.

Not altogether enhanced by the obscure pinout of the 4017 chip which seems to have pins in random positions.

Probly to make the chip design easier, since it was designed in the days when god was a boy.
