Been wearing goretex over socks, bib tights, base layer and skull cap for the last couple of weeks. Only wear the water proofs when it's really wet though as I sweat like a bastard in them. Resorted to the arm warmers this morning as well.

Actually really enjoyed the ride in today , frost on the ground at 7:00 am but a cracking sunrise over the river at Richmond and Mortlake. Cold and crisp.

I sweat in them too and often have to stop to remove them after 15 mins. It's a real pain. Apart from jumpers, don't have anything else to wear when it gets cold.

How far/long are you riding, if it's more than half an hour or so it's worth getting some proper kit. You don't have to spend a fortune on it. Head down to Aldi or Lidle and check their middle aisle stuff, the very often have cycling gear (Branded as Crivit or Crane Sport never seen it elsewhere though) that is cheap and functional and thermal base layers for general sporting activities. In fact Aldi have ski gear in at the moment including thermals that are worth looking at.

Otherwise check Cycle | Run | Swim | Wiggle Tri-Sports & Bike Shop for their DHB branded basic gear.

Bib tights are great for keeping your legs warm, a base layer under whatever you usually wear on top will make a big differance as well.

Try starting out without the water proofs. If you find you are still cold after 15 mins put them on, otherwsie you will have warmed up properly by then and may well find you dont need them at all.

I do 15 miles each way - I'm just wearing a bright orange sleeveless t-shirt and double-skinned shorts.

Thanks for the links DaveB, I'll do some research - cheers!
