Although there is still some degree of prejudice amongst the more unenlightened members of Society, I think Asperger's is truly one of those conditions where the term "differently abled" applies: people with Asperger's often have tremendous intellectual talents, although they may find it harder to develop social skills.
Hopefully your family will now be helped to help him make the most of his potential whilst assisting him in coming to terms with the trickier social stuff.
