Ever see the film the wild geese, god I laughed.
Most of the dogs left alive are retired now, acting as military advisers or running private security companies.
Good money in it and the work is legit, they are even protecting convoys in Iraq.
Trouble is the new breed are not dogs they are security officers with a bit of squaddie training.
Wouldn't last a day in a brush fight. put them in the bush to live on the local for a few weeks and they would all die of starvation. mind you, you wouldn't believe what you'll eat when you've been a week without food.

Well my stay in port Elizebeth was short lived, couldn't handle the hassle from her parents and the trouble in the congo was catching up. some of the white officers had been ex south african army and border control/immigration had the cops all over questioning visas.
I shipped out to the gulf and stayed there for a few weeks before flying back to britain.
By then the british scene was totally dead. you couldn't get a post anywhere, not one that I would even consider taking.
Working for european backers and governments was ok most of the time, it was all get in get out and no mess.
The african leaders, or most of them were butchers, you only worked for them if you were a total pscho or a wanabee, and most of them ended up dead.

Took a few local jobs, minding, bouncing and decided to try a different career.
worked for a few weeks minding lunchtime strippers in a club.
used to pick them up from the train station and take them to the club.
sit in the changing room while they got ready and then escort them to the stage and watch the punters didn't interfere with them.
back to the changing room and then back to the station. Boooooring.
I had a penchant for learning If I wanted to learn something I bought a book and learned it. easy.
I was doing a few OU courses at the time but hadn't made up my mind yet what I wanted to do. I liked engineering so decided to go down that road.

Computers were just raising their ugly heads at that time but didn't really interest me.
Did my engineers ticket (coastal) and joined Ocean shipping.
enjoyed it really, but carried on bouncing for local clubs, and doing a bit of debt collecting. More for a bit of exitement really than the money.
Met a dishy blond a few years later and fell head over heels, she made me pack in bouncing and I married her.
Still together and still head over heels.
I'm a grandfather now as well, got two granddaughters, one six and one two year old,
Babysitting tonight as well, they're on a sleepover so I have been warned to keep the noise down.
By the way SallyAnne, the six year old is a very smart redhead as well.
she already speaks welsh and english and is now learning french.

cor! I just looked at my posts, I don't half prattle on when I'm bored.
should have split them right up and spread it out a bit.

Nearly 01.30 and I am still wide awake.
Don't sleep much, never have. Three or four hours a night.
still I used to have a tendency to lash out if somebody touched me when I was asleep. Bust my brothers nose once before I was even awake.
he used to tap me on the head with a broomhandle after that to wake me, broke the broom handle once too.
Funny, after the kids were born I stopped doing it, probably because they used to climb all over me when I was asleep, and if I had lashed out at one of them wifey would have killed me

Ak's in all their models are the most used weapon of destruction in the world. and a formidable weapon it is too.
Heavy lump to carry around and so are the rounds.
Thing is, the 9 millli and 5.56 weapons, even the hv ones are bloody useless in the bush.
Find cover behind a small tree trunk or sapling, yeah! it will stop a high velocity 9mm or 5.56 round dead, the AK's slower but heavier 7.62 round will punch right through it and you.
The yanks found that out to their cost in nam. they still issued 9mm to the troops though, money first eh!

Ap mines are the most horrendous invention ever made. most are designed to cripple not kill, to overburden the enemy's resources.
trouble is, when the fighting moves on the ap's are left behind for kids and other innocents to tread on.
And whoever came up with the idea of the bouncing betties should be made to run naked through a field of them.
