    Problem Page

Each week CUK forum members are asked to help fellow contractors with their personal and business problems. This week, Shorty from Littlehampton writes:

"I have been offered a contract at a pharmaceutical company that makes penis enlargement drugs. The agent says that if I take it for a month there is a good chance of an extension. Should I take it and see if something better comes up?"

What advice would you give dear readers?

If they do offer the extension then make sure that there is a guaranteed raise after the extension.

Will you, evenutally, be able to get it over the counter?
Do you think people who pack the confectionary into boxes at fudge making factories tell people what they do for a living?

Also make sure that they don't walk away and leave you to your own devices just after giving you that raise....

You need to take the problem in hand and work vigerously to ensure the desired result is achieved. Only by skillfull manipulation of the assets available to you will you produce the desired output and ensure a satisfying end to the project.

Shorty tells me that his contract stipulates that he must produce a quality deliverable within a set period of time (but not too early) to the satisfaction of the user acceptance test team, otherwise he may come under IR35.

Perhaps Shorty should do a use-case model, or a cost/benefit analysis, to ensure that he does not haemorrhage or indeed leak any of his assets.

And does the contract allow for substitution?
