He does really, but would rather spend his time searching for unicorn solutions, such as agencies changing future contracts and fantasy insurances

We'll see a lot more of this desperate thrashing once the changes actually take effect. One thing in PC's favour is that at least he's aware there's a train coming down the tracks towards him.

Forget the alleged IR35 status - you might get lucky. I can see retrospective tax grabs coming in for roles more directly in bed with Public Sector departments where you're actually on site; like the TfL guys who have walked.

If you're in a public sector department on contract now and carry on, you're a prime target for a retrospective grab. They won't need to go for the agent of an agent grey area cases, there will be enough low-hanging fruit to keep them happy for years.

Just seen a new umbrella offering whose pitch is continue as a PSC but also take employment through their umbrella company, receive basic salary and engage with their private sector partner via your PSC for the balance beyond your basic salary.

Apparently it's not a scheme and neither is it one of those dodgy offshore arrangements.

Do people really fall for this stuff?

Wouldn't a rabbit seeing the headlights approaching be a better term? Most people take decisive action when there is a train coming at them....

Pretty much yeah, but his gig will naturally expire at the end of Feb so he doesn't need to.

Ah, well by process of elimination, it's a dodgy onshore arrangement. Or low-hanging fruit as HMRC would see it. Never trust an offering where the contractor is taking all the risk and the promoter will have gone missing by the time Hector comes calling.

That's why I've put a sticky up on this.

I can see many people not following it because they will think 'contracting = more money' still applies.

The only thing that's stopping people here is knowing the probability and consequences of HMRC hitting them with an enquiry.

There will be many who don't want to know the risks of taking up with a dodgy umbrella, they just want to see the extra £££'s in front of them.

When they come here whinging about said investigations I will laugh and point at them for an appalling lack of common sense and due diligence.
