Pretty much everyone does though, contractor or perm, if they work from home?

It a bit of a nonsensical pointer IMO, given security concerns, these days.

Not if you are handling classified data and want to remain on the gig.

        No, I meant a nonsensical IR35 pointer .

I handle very sensitive data and access it via a VPN from home, using my own machine, perms do the same.

That's the sort of thing I was getting at.

I wish I had the ability to wfh, no opportunity for that.

But my point was how easily the test will be misread by morons who will see something they understand (whose computer it is) then jump to a smug conclusion feeling they have "done the right assessment". It all really stinks.

And the autonomy actually goes deeper? Does the person have to ask when they are working from home, advising the client is OK?

Where I am now, I can just decide in the morning whether I wish to schlep to the office, or not

Predictably I didn't care for permiedom (more specifically the toxic wasteland known as the Aspire Contract) and left after a year. But I made a shed load of cash, even with having to rent a flat out of my own taxed pocket. From that one year I have a £23000 Capgemini pension pot.

They were charging me out a touch over £1000 a day so there was plenty of scope to give me a fat salary, bonus, pension etc etc

If more work comes their way because of IR35, the SIs will be out there waving their cheque books, no problem..
Rates are far lower than that on new SI contracts.

Interesting point. Clients might well think if contractors will have to pay NI then it might be simpler for everyone to do FTCs.

Financially the contractor is no worse off. Or could be better off - the client could offer benefits like pension contributions.

The problem however is 'contractor' and permie rates become much more readily compared; much more inflammatory as far as incumbent permies are concerned.
