It was unlikely every PS contractor would be forced inside IR35 not so long ago

I agree that HMRC don't have the resources to pursue a large number of individual cases through tribunal (and they would need to be individual cases). That's what Abbey are saying. However, they can open a large number of cases with relatively little effort, and expect some of them to settle, given that they've already admitted to being inside, without a change in working practices.
The thing to remember is that its perfectly possible that HMRC could just throw all the cases into a "will eventually go to tribunal pile" and apply pressure to the tax payers by continually sending their carefully timed settlement reminder letters. Imagine being the 5,000th case to be processed with an estimated hearing date of 2025 with HMRC sending letters offering a settlement deal every few months...
And if you think I'm joking about that approach go and read the HMRC scheme enquiries forum..Last edited by eek; 19 January 2017, 20:29.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

Currently in a PS gig that ends in March, though I have informed the agent I won't work past Feb unless the 30 day payment terms are waived.
I'm the only contractor out of maybe 15 that is leaving due to the new rules. We even have a couple of new guys starting Monday (maybe they are Brolly?)
I personally think (or hope) there won't be a flood of contractors entering the market in April as no one other than the 10 people who regularly post on here seem to give a tulip.Comment

There are posters who have appeared who have to be told they aren't earning enough to work away from home and they can't claim expenses due to using an umbrella company."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Most people will only discover what is happening when they receive their April or May payments and then ask what's happened.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

Does anyone want to pen a succinct post explaining what's just happened to them, what might hapeen to them in the future, and what they might do to mitigate against it happening to them?
You'll have my thanks and I'll make it a sticky.."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

Yep, wouldn't want to be in hospital over the Easter bank holiday as a lot will have decided to take the time off with the family instead.Comment
