Edge - HMRC Discovery Assessments
A large number of former Edge employees are receiving "discovery" assessments from HMRC for the 2009-10 tax year. Many of those assessments may have been made "out of time".
I am a Chartered Tax Advisor currently representing a very large number of contractors in their dealings with HMRC regarding arrangements very similar to those used by Edge.
I have been contacted by a small number of former Edge employees looking for professional assistance following the closure of Edge/Norla. It is my hope to establish an independent "fighting fund" into which members would contribute so as to minimise the individual cost of dealing with HMRC.
If you are in a similar position and are looking for a tax advisor with extensive experience in this area please do contact me.Comment

Appeal letter

Are you saying this is incorrect and you can appeal with no grounds?
Is so, I'll strike these from the list of possibles!
If not, the short appeal letter is not a valid appeal....
"Notice of appeal
If you decide to appeal, that must be done by notice in writing. The notice must be given to HMRC within 30 days. Furthermore, the First-tier Tribunal have recently held that is not enough to merely say that you wish to appeal a conclusion of HMRC, for a notice of appeal to be valid you must also set out the grounds upon which you wish to appeal the decision."Comment

Welcome to the forum. I have checked out your company and, while it was only formed this year I have seen your LI profile and don't mind this post being included. Please do read the terms and conditions of using the forum:
Bulletin Board Terms and Conditions :: Contractor UK
Especially point 6 regarding marketing your services. With this in mind I have removed the link to your company but if anyone readying the thread wants to check you or your company out then can simply search for Saleos in Google and they will be able to find all they need to know I am sure.
We would be more than happy for you to post what advice and assistance you can give the individuals here caught up in this so, in return for allowing your post through, please do feel free to post what updates you can or give what advice you can as I am sure we would all appreciate it.
Kind Regards

This contains no grounds for appeal, and in response to post 421, I don't think we're trying to "make sense" here - there's nothing sensible about this whole business, we're trying to do things correctly and legally so HMRC can't win on a technicality....Comment

First-tier tax tribunal decision issued on 29 november 2013
I have nearly completed my review of the very recent Tax Tribunal decision and will be discussing the full implications with HMRC Specialist Investigations Office in due course.
It is my intention to hold another seminar in London (following the one in April this year attended by 80 contractors) and is there a volunteer who would take on the task of arranging this with my services provided free of charge?
HMRC have expressed an interest in attending such a seminar to put across their point of view.
Due to the costs of room hire in Central London, we will need at least 80 attendees again.
The meeting would likely be held in the New Year by which time we might see some further developments.
Anyone who is interested to receive a copy of the decision in favour of HMRC is welcome to PM me.Comment
