DesparateDan - I am interested in Michael's offer, depending on cost and cost of room hire. As long as we can get enough of us interested (10), then it should be ok. Thanks for offering to sort out the where...I will have a think to see if I can think of somewhere.

Michael J Perry - how much will the "cost of the seminar" be please?

    Hope everyone is ok

I also just received a discovery tax assessment for year ending 5th Aprl 2009 from Miss Stopp. I have made enquiries with Cobham Murphy to assist me with the appeal and will be following this thread.
      Hi
I have got noice for 08/09. I have sent a filled form to HMRC putting cobham murphy as firm reprenting me. But i have not mentioned reasons/grounds for appeal. Also i am not sure what cobham are go?ing to write and if i get a chance to see that. Finally not sure if cobham murphy is accepting all application with same scenarios and combing all in one appeal or each appliaction is represented seprately

      Any idea?

      Thanks

Obviously I don't wish to write the content of the reply on here, they have not requested any further information, just said they would recalculate the figure they had based their assessment on if I had any information on amounts received for that period.
They did dismiss the fact it had a fully disclosed DOTAS,stating :- "HMRC does not approve any scheme designed to avoid tax"

Based on another line in the response I am under the impression they are also able to go back further than the 4 yrs which my accountant had originally advised.

I have received a first response from HMRC with regards to my appeal, unfortunately all the arguments put forward by my accountant have been dismissed so I am now in an even greater need for more advice.

            HMRC Latest Action

If you have made your appeal and application for full postponement of the tax charged and it has been accepted, you can still expect to receive a tax bill with interest added from the due date of 31 January 2010.

Sorry Michael, I don't understand that. Would you mind explaining it to me?

              Thank you.

I think hes suggesting that just becuase you got a tax bill with interest, it does not mean your appeal has not been accepted.

The tax will remain outstanding and gaining interest until the matter is resolved.

Once your appeal and postponement application have been accepted, your NEXT statement of account should reflect this and reduce the amount payable to NIL (unless you have other agreed liabilities).

                  Hope that explains.

Okay thanks. As I said on the main EBT thread. I got a new statement yesterday with interest added, but I did get my appeal in before the deadline and they obviously haven't got round to reading it!! So hopefully what you're saying is that once they have written to me to say they have received and accepted my appeal, I should then get ANOTHER statement with NIL on it.

                    Thanks again.

                      Other years?

Has anyone been asked for information or received demands for years other than 08/09?
