HMRC Enquiry letters on Loans from EBT and other schemes

I received a letter today dated 8th March from HMRC Debt Management & Banking stating that I owe £xxxx and that I am being charged interest daily.
looking at the back of the letter it states that this is due for the tax year ending 05-04-2009 (which is the year that I have an appeal in against). My appeal was sent at the start of Feb and I have not received any acknowledgment back from HMRC. I have just about had enough of this so I called them up and asked what is going on. I was told that they can see on the system that the amount is suspended pending appeal so I questioned why they had sent this letter out and also why I had not received anything back from them. I was told that I would need to phone the Self assessement helpline to ask them. My reply was...." As long as you can see it on your system that it has been suspended, I am not wasting any more money phoning your (un)help lines when I dont owe this in the first place. None of your departments know what the other one is up to and this whole thing is a load of nonsense"
So, if you have received one of these letters also it looks like there is a big backlog as usual or more scaremongering tactics.Comment

I think DonkeyRhubarb rightly pointed out that this would happen earlier in the thread. I think disjointed was the term he used.Comment

Who are the specialists people are talking to
Originally posted by Chods View PostThats an amazing contrast to the 4 specialists i have spoken to who claim HMRC dont currently have the legislation they need to reclaim tax they think they have lost.
Dont pay them the £50 yet whatever you do
Would it be beneficial if people write in their posts what scheme they were through, which specialist and type they have contacted and what their responses have been so we can build up a profile of these things so people can get a better idea of who to go to for advice for their scheme and a larger group force if required.Comment

Hmmm, this may also be useful info for the HMRC folk nosing around here!Comment

I would like to pool resources as its very odd how HMRC found out exact details of my loans...
Did TRM disclose this and then decide to charge us to defend?Comment

Are PM rights safe?

Round and round we go!
I completely understand how worrying, stressful and uncertain these situations can be.
Really the only way to get your questions answered is to consult someone who knows what they are doing. All this conjecture is just worrying for everybody. It is a mix of absolute accuracy followed by complete fantasy and mis-information. I suggest you come to my seminar where all your questions will be answered. Advice is free for the seminar and I am happy to help those that cannot afford to appoint a professional adviser or want to be represented by their scheme provider but would like a second opinion or those who just want to wait or do it themselves or do nothing at all! I am also not adverse to clients appointing my firm to act on their behalf!Comment
