    Settlement Letters Arriving soon ?

    Hi

I was after any advice on the forthcoming letters from HMRC that i read about on this forum

HMRC loan charge settlement offer: 3 things to check before you sign | Contractor UK

I have yet to receive them but was with Horizon/Castlemaine/GoAccountancy (under their various guises) so any information or advice would be appreciated

The page you linked to gives advice, but it's hard to give other advice until you've got a letter and have read through it.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Was that Castlemaine Associates? i.e. Ray Trew. Who then became accountant to LCAG before HMRC served them with a winding up order. Yet LCAG still introduced their new company to the APPG & then promoted them to LCAG members via Newsletter. LCAG also regularly retweet their Linkedin posts.

      Odd, isn't it?

In terms of things to check, I created a spreadsheet for myself with several columns.
I paid an APN some years ago and also made a number of payments on account so these column headers are personal to me.
You might find them helpful when you eventually get your new settlement offer.
Tax Year Amount Received Yearly Tax (after allowances & relief) Less promoter fees (up to10% per year) Less Govt. offer to write off £5,000 Less APN (paid) Less any POA. Payments On Account Less SA cr balance if any? EstimatedTax due after allowances, relief, POA etc.

Big question for me is whether “payment on account” is considered payment and therefore non-refundable should the settlement calculation come in lower than what has already been paid on account.

No it's not. It's still your money until you settle. You can withdraw it at any time although, if you do, you lose all the interest protection while the money was held on account.

It is very odd isn't it?

I'm told LCAG have also used and promoted, in addition to Ray Trew, Robert Venables, Andrew Thornhill, Setu Kamal and Graham Webber (WTT), what is going on here?

Does anyone check their accounts? Is someone on commission?

It is certainly bizarre to be calling for Promoters to be prosecuted whilst at the same time pushing promoters on their own members.

LCAG introduced Ray Trew and his business partners Adain Loy to the APPG behind closed doors after hosting a webinar to sell his latest wares.

LCAG's spokesman Steve Packham regularly shares/promotes his latest venture on which nobody seems to have done any due diligence. Castlemaine Associates acted as accountant to LCAG before Castlemaine suffered a striking-off notice from HMRC. Check out C4J Ltd but I'll warn you that it is a wormhole.
