    HMRC Response

Apologies if this appears somewhere else but does anyone know of the typical HMRC response time? I received a disguised remuneration letter earlier this year and replied with all available information around April/May.

The longer this goes on the more worried I get, I just want a figure or at least a starting point to work with. Each day that goes past I become more and more reclusive from my friends and family and sadly more alcohol dependant. I feel a figure, even a financially crippling one, must be better than this.

I'm afraid you may have to chase them.

One thing that usually makes them get their finger out, is if you go through your Member of Parliament. MPs deal with HMRC on behalf of constituents all the time. I don't know whether you would be comfortable involving your MP but it's something to consider if all else fails.
Scoots still says that Apr 2020 didn't mark the start of a new stock bull market.

      +1

All you can do is chase up HMRC. Then if you haven't heard anything by October ask your MP to chase it up. Yes you may not like talking to your MP about it but you shouldn't have to wait 5 months to get an estimated tax bill.

        Thanks both

I have chased them up every month, if only to make it clear my situation is deterioting in the hope they pick it up sooner (this hasn't worked).

I will get on to my MP after my next monthly call and take it from there.

Still keen to here from others how long they were in the process for. I see "years" quoted on twitter and I'm not sure I have the mental stability for that at the moment

Just to pick up on the other stuff you said. If you are finding yourself losing sleep, worrying all the time, drinking too much too often....... Please seek professional help before it gets any further. You aren't the first. You won't be the last. Good luck.

            I’ll just put this here…

And if you don’t have an advisor give WTT Consulting a call, I think that they’ll give you a 30 minute initial call without strings. As Webber said, they are happy to be that first call anyone makes.

Agree with the above quotes. Your health is the most important thing here.

It reads as if you are in the same situation as another recent poster Mistertach that posted a few days ago. Whilst his new thread is more about the interest being applied it does say that he was contacted earlier this year and has since received a settlement offer.

Has HMRC opened an enquiry for a particular tax year for you or was the letter more of an invite to settle?

              All the best

Today is a big day for me. Finally closure from this whole mess. Loans fully settled with HMRC and written off by the 3rd party, tax and NI paid, company stuck off and dissolved, confirmation from HMRC that all liabilities for both me and my Ltd company are settled and there is no IHT to pay. its taken about 4 years from first notification about the loan charge to eventually being in this position. It's also taken assistance from an accountant, a loan charge settlement specialist and even my MP but I just wanted to let people know that, despite some dark and difficult times, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if your tunnel is a bit longer than mine was.

One thing I would say is be absolutely as transparent as possible with HMRC and they will eventually make sure you pay what is owed and can finally draw a line under it all, without coming back for more and leaving you constantly dreading the day another brown envelope lands on the mat.

Good luck to the rest of you currently going through this nightmare. It does get easier

Many thanks for this post dangermaus, it's important to show that this too will pass.

I am in the process of settling.

Did you have to pay tax and NI via your LTD and also pay tax on your SA?

Was there any relief from HMRC?
