Brief update, on Friday I received a check of self assessment for the tax year that included the brief spell with bedouin (redstone), I have discussed this with bedouin (Michelle booth) who have provided a stock response form to reply with. Again reiterating their stance that they are fully hmrc compliant. Oddly enough even though I have received no demand my accountant has stated in their position they would opt to contact hmrc and settle regardless

I've split this post from the original thread which can be found here.

Apologies for taking this one (slightly) off topic, but does anyone know if Bedouin have been operating the same 'solution' over the last five/six years or so ?
I have a mate who's been using them for about 2 years now and I've been trying to talk him off it but he's firmly in the 'I've been using them for x months and not had any problems' mindset. A quick look on their website now seems to suggest that they are just a brolly solution, but I'm guessing that's not the full story. Any Bedouin long term clients advise ?When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....Comment

They've taken a huge volunteers of calls the last few days apparently, they have discussed it with their "tax counsel" and feel the standard letter they are distributing to those affected are sufficient for the moment. When I stated my accountants advised me to offer to settle they did nothing to dissuade me, merely state it's up to me if I want to admit liabilityComment

The Bedouin name has a long history of woes behind it, CUK has several threads on the subject, they make some pretty scary reading.Comment

Grandfathering is about to go, the GAAR will catch up with the non - DOTAS ones post 2013.
Really - post 2013 there is no excuse for anyone to be in these schemes.
Arrangements entered into on or after 17 July that have a main purpose of obtaining a tax advantage, and which are "abusive", can be challenged by HMRC under the new general anti-abuse rule ('GAAR'). They will be.Comment
